Menopause Champion

At School-Home Support, we have signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge, to take positive action and make sure that everyone who experiences menopause feels supported and informed. Our Menopause Champion is a driving force in supporting this initiative and creating an inclusive and supportive environment for staff going through the menopause and perimenopause.

Why is menopause support in the workplace important?

Everyone who goes through menopause can experience it differently. Symptoms can be physical, such as hot flushes, headaches, poor sleep and erratic periods, or psychological, such as anxiety, low mood, lack of confidence and poor concentration.

Menopausal women are the fastest growing demographic in the workforce.

  • According to the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM), nearly 8 out of 10 menopausal women are in work.
  • 3 out of 4 women experience symptoms. 1 in 4 could experience serious symptoms.

In recognition of the importance of menopause support in the workplace, School-Home Support have signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge. The Menopause Workplace Pledge is led by Wellbeing Of Women. It is a commitment and intention to work toward a more inclusive, supportive and understanding workplace environment for our staff experiencing perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms.

What activities have taken place so far?

  • Informative team sessions delivered by the Menopause Champion.
  • Regular wellbeing drop in sessions hosted by the Menopause Champion.
  • Resources shared with colleagues to keep everyone informed and up to date.
  • Online training modules made available for all colleagues.
  • A new Menopause Policy developed and put in place.

Feedback from colleagues

Just to say a huge thank you for the fan, it was great, really helped in meetings and much less intrusive for other colleagues. The train journey home was bliss too.

Informative and eye opening. It can be overwhelming to think about how much I don’t know about menopause and perimenopause. Thankfully these informal sessions are here to support and raise awareness.

It’s great to just listen to other people’s experiences and absorb information that I can recall for myself as well as friends and family.

Meet our Menopause Champion

Melissa Connolly

“We don’t usually speak about the perimenopause or menopause much in the workplace so when School-Home Support signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge I was really pleased. I volunteered to become the Menopause Champion so I could help support others experiencing symptoms and help School-Home Support become a more inclusive and supportive workplace for those experiencing symptoms.”
